Middle School Activities & Clubs

 Academics
 

Chess Club- This is a new club that meets each Friday in room 206 from 2-3:00. There is no charge for this club. This is open to all students from grades 6-8 and also open to players with all level of experience from beginner to expert.

Math Team- Is open to all students in grades 6-8.  Which runs from late September to early April. The team has meets against local middle schools. It meets in room 220.  There is a fee to participate.

Model U.N. Club- Meets in room 210 on Mondays 2-3:15 pm. This club is open to all students from grades 6-8.  This is a pilot year (2015-2016) and has been very successful to date. It is still open to join and there is no charge. Students are currently preparing for a regional competition which will be held at Newburyport High School. In addition to the two teachers, MUN is also led by four NHS students. We welcome any and all. Students are welcome to just come by to watch.

World War II Club- Is for students grades 6-8 with an interest in World War II.  Club meets in room 206 on Tuesdays and talk about the war. Members listen to guest speakers, watch documentaries and play board games, such as Axis and Allies. This year's group will be reading and discussing a young adult historical fiction book.

Community Service

Clipper CrewIs an eighth-grade leadership program which started in 2007 as a way of promoting service, leadership, and school spirit. Participating students must be recommended by their 7th grade teachers, participate in an interview with the two faculty advisors.  Students should demonstrate the potential to take advantage of the opportunity to develop and use their leadership skills to the benefit of the Nock Middle School community at-large. The group meets regularly, both in and outside of school, typically after school two Wednesdays a month in room 217 and occasionally during lunch (depending upon the activity).

Sports

Fall Cross Country- The R.A.N. Interscholastic Cross Country Program is designed for boys and girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in cross country running. The team practices on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at Maudslay State Park after school from 2:30-3:30 starting in September and finishing at the end of October. Please note that we do not provide transportation to Maudslay. The team normally competes in at least four meets against area middle schools, including the annual Cape Ann Invitational meet in Gloucester. Bus transportation will be provided for all away contests. Uniforms will be provided for each participant. There is a fee to participate.

Fall Field Hockey- The R.A.N. Interscholastic Field Hockey Program is designed for girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in playing interscholastic field hockey.  The team practices two to three times per week usually starting the 1st FULL week of school.  The team will play a schedule against schools in the Cape Ann League or Northeast Conference.  The team will practice at the high school baseball field and will play its home games at Fuller Field.  Bus transportation will be provided for all away contests.  There is a fee to participate.

Spring Track- The R.A.N. Interscholastic Track Program is designed for Boys and Girls in grades 6-8 who are interested in participating in the interscholastic program.  The team practices twice a week after school at Fuller Field.  The team competes in meets against schools in the Cape Ann League.  Bus transportation is provided for all away games. There is a fee to participate

Bradford Ski and Snowboard Program- Is offered to all students grades 6-8.  Students travel by bus to Bradford Ski for 6 weeks on Tuesdays after school beginning on the 1st Tuesday in January.  Lessons and rental equipment is available.

The Arts

Art ClubArt Club is offered to all students grades 6-8 throughout the school year. Students meet on a weekly basis after school in the art room on  Mondays from 2-3pm.

Dramatic Theatre- One play is offered each year, with the performance being held in the winter. Students from all grade levels are cast in various roles. The playprovides an excellent opportunity for students to showcase their acting abilities or to support the show as a member of the stage crew. They also foster teamwork and an enhanced sense of self-confidence. There is a fee to participate.

Jazz/Rock BandOpen to all 7th and 8th grade students by audition, this ensemble rehearses after school once a week for an hour and performs at seasonal concerts and community events.  Repertoire for this exciting and advanced ensemble covers Jazz, Pop, Rock, Show tunes and more!

Yearbook-Open to any 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who enjoys photography and creativity.  Members of the Yearbook Photography Club will take photos of their classmates throughout the school year in order to capture the moments of middle school life.  Having your own camera is great but not necessary.  Members will also consult with the yearbook advisor for special assignments as well as preview and edit the yearbook pages. This allows students to be a part of creating lasting memories!
